Art historian Felicia Zavarella Stadelman returns with her popular series on the lives and works of beloved artists. Sponsored by the Friends of the Beachwood Library.
April: Bouguereau – One of the most important and influential artists of his time, and yet any reference to him was completely eliminated from Art History books. An artist you may not know but will never forget.
May: Kandinsky – Kandinsky is considered to be the father of abstract art. As a skilled musician he strongly associated music with art. Naming works after musical terms, he saw color when he listened to music. He wanted to create the equivalent of a symphony that would stimulate not just the eyes but the ears as well, explained by the fact that “each color lives by a mysterious life”.
